Therapeutic Residential Care

We specialise in working with looked after children and the support systems around them. Having years of experience in the sector, we understand the make up of residential homes and how to help them become more therapeutic. The services we offer facilitate a well-rounded approach when working in residential children’s services. Fundamental to this is our own evidence based model which is underpinned through understanding the impact of trauma on the developing mind.

We come away from a diagnostic way of thinking and advocate for children and young people being troubled rather than troublesome looking past their presenting behaviours to what has happened to them. Our aim to upskill young people and give them the tools to thrive themselves.

Our trauma informed model gives structure to our intervention. It is through this structure that we believe people and systems work most effectively. They can see what they are working through, what they need to work through, and the understanding of why they are doing so. We use a conversational approach to engage our young people, remaining curious and building up strong relationships making it clear as to who we are and why we do what we do. We ensure we are consistent, reliable, predictable and present. Often it is this which makes the difference for children and young people. To compliment our model we have an extensive library of resources – worksheets with keyworkers can complete with children and young people.

We provide a wrapround package working with both staff and young people. Staff receive regular clinical training, professional consultations, debriefs and supervision to name a few. Young people are offered direct sessions as well as nationally recognised psychometric assessments.

BPC have introduced sector leading clinical technology to providers we work with. We have a digital platform enabling us to bypass the typical ‘conversational’ type therapy to engage children and young people in a much more interactive, reward based way, whilst maintaining an adult presence in supervision and reviews of their completed sessions. We understand the majority of children in care often do not want to engage with clinicians in ‘typical’ therapy so we offer this in a much more creative way enabling them to make use of being ‘digital natives’ born in to the technological world.
